HIGH POINT, N.C. — The City of High Point is expected to incur costs of about $4.6 million to clean up debris after last week’s ice storm.

According to the High Point Enterprise, City Manager Strib Boynton provided the estimate at the city council meeting this week.

“To date, we’ve spent $1.6 million to cut and clear downed trees and limbs so power could be restored, and to actually replace transformers, poles and lines necessary to restore power to those who lost power,” Boynton said.

The city will need another $3 million to complete cleanup, based on Federal Emergency Management Agency formulas.

Boynton said he hopes the city will qualify for some FEMA reimbursement to cover a substantial portion of the costs. He says there is no guarantee at this point.
