Randolph Co. mom uses Facebook to find daughter’s grandfather
RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — Trinity, 8, had always wanted to meet her grandfather.
Thanks to Facebook, she finally got her wish.
Amber Richardson, Trinity’s mother, divorced Trinity’s father back in 2007 when Trinity was only 18-months-old. Trinity’s dad never had a relationship with his father, so Trinity had not met her grandfather before her parents divorced.
“I come from a very large, loving family and always wondered… ‘Where is the rest of my daughter’s family?’ And where is her grandfather?” Amber said.
The only thing Amber knew about her daughter’s grandfather was his last name and the state he lived in.
“Then I joined Facebook and started searching, but came up with nothing. Then I finally started searching every person in the state of Indiana with the last name Richardson and sent them messages, letting them know who I was searching for,” Amber said.
In June 2013, Amber received a response from a woman who had read her message.
“How do I know this is real?” the woman asked.
Amber replied back and explained what she was trying to do and told the woman more about Trinity.
“She knew from looking at the photo that it was definitely real,” Amber said.
The woman Amber was messaging was Trinity’s great aunt who lives in Tennessee.
“She passed all the contact information over to Trinity’s grandfather. He quickly contacted me with joy that he never knew he had a granddaughter,” Amber said.
Trinity is his first grandchild.
Since June 2013, Amber has kept in contact with Trinity’s grandfather almost daily as they planned for him to come to North Carolina and visit. He arrived for his visit on March 9.
“When he got here it was such an emotional day. Trinity’s heart was overwhelmed with happiness as she was able to spend an entire week and formed an amazing bond with her grandfather,” Amber said.
Amber and Trinity will travel to Indiana this summer to meet the rest of the Richardson family.
“Her constant questions through the years of wanting to know her Richardson family made it my goal to find them. Thanks to Facebook I found them,” Amber said.
When Amber’s grandfather left, he told Trinity:
“This is the start of a new chapter for the rest of our lives!”
“I feel my heart is complete as my daughter’s heart is now finally filled with both families who love her unconditionally! I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her!” Amber said.
