VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Authorities said a 16-year-old girl has died after collapsing at the end of a half-marathon Sunday morning in Virginia Beach.
WTKR-TV reported that the teenager collapsed at the finish line of the Shamrock Half Marathon around 10 a.m.
The identity of the victim has not been released. Officials said medical crews took her to Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital where she died.
The girl’s cause of death currently remains unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
“We are thankful for the very quick response of our emergency responders,” said race directors Jerry and Amy Frostick, in an email statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with this individual’s loved ones during this difficult time.”
