CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers have signed veteran safety Roman Harper to a two-year, $4.5 million deal with a $1.5 million signing bonus, according to ESPN.

Harper, 31, has played his entire career with the Saints, ever since he was selected in the second round of the 2006 NFL draft.

Harper is a two-time Pro Bowler and his 17 sacks are the most in the NFL by any defensive back since 2006.

Carolina had a void at safety after Mike Mitchell left to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
