Suspect, officer killed after double-homicide investigation

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (WSOC-TV) — Burke County deputies are investigating a double homicide on Fish Hatchery Road after a couple was found dead inside their home Wednesday.

Officials said shots were fired and a law enforcement officer was killed Wednesday afternoon. Deputies said the officer’s weapons were taken.

More shots were fired and deputies said the suspect is down. The sheriff later said he was killed.

Deputies were onboard Chopper 9 Skyzoom searching the scene in Burke County where the manhunt is underway after shots were fired.

A portion of the road near the intersection of Pea Ridge Road is shut down.

Deputies told Channel 9 they have found a stolen wrecker truck on Table Rock Road, not far from the homicide scene. They believe the truck is linked to the case.

Deputies are also searching for 38-year-old Troy David Whisnant, describing him as a person of interest in the case.
