WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — One person was killed Wednesday evening when a large tree uprooted and fell onto a vehicle due to strong winds.
Police say a 2001 Ford Focus was traveling north in the 2000 block of Reynolda Road around 6:30 p.m. when the tree fell onto the car.
The driver, Justin Timothy Cardwell, 25, of Winston-Salem, sustained severe injuries and died at the scene.
The passenger, Rebecca Dobbins, 26, of Winston-Salem, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Baptist Hospital. Her injuries are considered non-life threatening.
Reynolda Road was closed for a time after the accident but has since reopened.
