Guilford County Schools cancels classes on Monday

School officials said ongoing power outages, heating, ventilation, air conditioning issues and downed power lines and trees are still impacting some neighborhoods and bus routes.

Ten-month employees at schools following the 2013-14 traditional academic calendar should not report to work Monday and should plan on taking a vacation day, officials said.

The make-up day will be Thursday, April 17, according to Guilford County Schools Director of Communications Cynthia Robbins Shah-Khan.

Officials said principals will still report to their schools to assess their buildings and help coordinate response efforts, if needed. Central offices will open on a normal schedule.

As of Sunday night, at least 18 schools are still without power, while others have downed tree limbs and debris that needs to be removed.

One school only has partial power, while another school’s boiler stopped working, according to the school system.
