ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — Alamance-Burlington Schools are closed Monday after the ice storm Friday left thousands without power.
School officials said Sunday afternoon that one-third of school sites remain without power, while others are without phone and internet service.
A large number of school families and staff members continue to be without power and phone service, according to Alamance-Burlington Schools Public Information Officer Jenny Faulkner.
More than 40,000 people are still without power in Alamance County as of Sunday afternoon. There are nearly 150,000 Duke Energy customers statewide without power.
Crews are working to restore power after a storm hit the area Friday, causing downed trees and power lines and strong winds.
