THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- One Thomasville resident is regretting agreeing to an offer from a company to fix her roof for a great price.

The catch? The bill just had to be paid in full and upfront.

FOX8 On Your Side Consumer Reporter Melissa Painter explains why this great deal turned into a major problem.

are you kidding me. if it sounds too good to be true then what did your parents teach you .wake up people. quit being soooo dumb. even a kinder gardener would tell you “DON’T DO IT”

I would never pay upfront. Nobody should. When I had my bathroom redone the guy wanted the money for materials upfront. I told him no. Not a dime before the work is completed. I hired a different guy.

Working for myself in the woodworking business I never charge full price up front for pieces but a deposit is typically required. You have to find middle ground companies.

This guy scammed my mother too. He is a con artist and a convicted felon – check it out – it’s public record. It is scary that there are people preying on our elderly like this!!!!
