Community rallies for restaurant destroyed in fire

GRAHAM, N.C. -- Hundreds of longtime customers and supporters gathered for a benefit concert to help the Carver's on Elm restaurant, which was destroyed in a fire.

Brother-in-law of the Carver family, Matt Lovette, said many people asked him what they could do to help. They decided a benefit concert would be a great idea.

He said the family does have insurance, but the community wanted to show them support.

“I know this community, I know Alamance County and I know they are very supportive and I knew doing this would help make Carver’s bigger and better when it comes back,” Lovette said.

The entry fee was a donation of at least $10 and free for kids. There was live music, a 50/50 raffle, face painting and even a framed picture of the restaurant to sign in support of the family.

Jason Carver, son of the owners, said they are not sure when the restaurant will rebuild but would like to start in 2014.

“We're just really fortunate and we're blessed and we really thank everyone that's come out and contributed,” Carver said.
