North Carolina defeats No. 5 Duke, 74-66

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — North Carolina defeated No. 5 Duke, 74-66, at the Dean Smith Center on Thursday night.

The win marks North Carolina’s eighth straight victory.

The Tar Heels were led by Leslie McDonald, who scored 21 points on 9-12 shooting, while adding 4 rebounds and 1 assist.

Marcus Paige scored 13 points and James Michael McAdoo earned a double-double, scoring 10 points while also pulling down 10 rebounds.

Quinn Cook and Jabari Parker led the way for the Blue Devils, each scoring 17 points.

Better shooting and better rebounding were the things that secured the win for the Tar Heels.

North Carolina shot 47 percent from the field to Duke’s 43 percent.┬áThe Tar Heels also crushed the Blue Devils in the rebound battle, pulling down 43 boards to Duke’s 30.

North Carolina will be back in action Saturday when they take on Wake Forest at home at 12 p.m. Duke will face No. 1 Syracuse, who are coming off their first loss of the season Wednesday to unranked Boston College, on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham.
