LEXINGTON, N.C. -- Cleanup efforts continue after a fire completely destroyed Wayside Baptist Tabernacle Church in Davidson County Saturday.

Authorities said the fire started around 3:40 a.m. Saturday and engulfed the Forest Hill Road church within a matter of minutes.

West Lexington firefighters said they’re still determining a cause of the fire and hope to know by the end of the week. Firefighters said flames ripped through the roof of the church, causing major damage.

Disaster relief crews boarded up what was left of the church after the damage. Church members said they plan on rebuilding the tabernacle.
