Middle school on lockdown following inmate escape in Rowan Co.

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A search is underway for an escaped inmate in Rowan County Monday morning.

The escape has prompted school officials to place Southeast Middle School on a code yellow lockdown, according to WSOC.

Officers are looking for Jonathan Dixon, 27, who was reported missing from the Piedmont Correctional Institution’s minimum–security unit at approximately 4 a.m.

Dixon is serving a maximum of seven years for multiple counts of breaking and entering, among other charges.

He has family and friends living in and near Pitt County and may attempt to travel to that area.

Dixon was due for release in June 2017.
