GREENSBORO, N.C. –The man accused of sexually assaulting and killing a 7-year-old girl in Greensboro more than two decades ago is expected in court today.

Donald Preston Ferguson, 52, of Spartanburg, has been charged with murder and first degree sexual offense in connection with the July 21, 1990, killing of Shalonda Poole, according to jail records.

Ferguson was extradited back to North Carolina last week after being arrested in South Carolina.

Shalonda went missing from her family's Hampton Homes residence on July 21, 1990. Her body was found with signs of sexual assault and strangulation the next day in a wooded area behind Jones Elementary School..

He is being held in the Guilford County Jail without bond.
