Ric Flair to skip Panthers game, supports 49ers
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-native and former professional wrestler Ric Flair apparently has flip-flopped from supporting his hometown Panthers to the 49ers, as reported by ESPN’s David Newton.
Flair showed up Saturday night at the 49ers’ hotel in Green Bay, wearing dark sunglasses and entering to the music of “2001: A Space Odyssey.”
Flair said he couldn’t be more honored that somebody from the organization contacted the WWE and asked that he show up to give a motivational speech to the team, and cracked jokes about them coming to Charlotte this week before they beat Green Bay Sunday.
“That’s my hometown,” he laughed. “Cam ain’t going to like that, either.”
Flair then said that the Panthers were “lucky” to beat the 49ers 10-9 earlier this season in San Francisco, and admitted “I didn’t know the guys beat you this year.”
Then he called the 49ers “Ric Flair’s team.”
Flair said he received death threats after his 49ers speech and he plans on skipping the Panthers playoff game, according to Sportingnews.com.
