DURHAM, N.C. — What was supposed to be a peaceful vigil for Jesus Huerta turned violent Thursday, according to WTVD.

Huerta is the 17-year-old who died in police custody last month. Many questions surrounding his death have gone unanswered.

Friends and supporters of Huerta ended up facing off with police in riot gear after the vigil turned violent.

In trying to disperse the crowd, tear gas and smoke bombs were used.

There are currently no reports of arrests or injuries.

Investigators say the 17-year-old died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound while in police custody Nov. 19.
