MOORESVILLE, N.C. — A Mooresville man training for a student teaching job is accused of having child pornography on his computer.

The Charlotte Observer reported that 26-year-old Michael John Bernatchez is charged with seven counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

Officials said Bernatchez was participating in a college teaching internship program at East Mooresville Intermediate School and planned to start student teaching in the fall 2014 semester.

Authorities said a citizen contacted sheriff’s deputies on Nov. 30 and reported that a person might have child pornography on a computer.

Investigators said a search warrant and seized the man’s computer and the State Bureau of Investigation was contacted for help.

There are no indications that either students or the school are involved, according to Maj. Darren Campbell.

The suspect was arrested last week and was released from jail on a $50,000 bond.
