WINGATE, N.C. — Police have arrested two suspects at an apartment complex in Monroe overnight in connection to a fatal shooting near Wingate University, according to WSOC.

Daniel Steven Sheerer and Tony Antwone Knotts, both of Marshville, are being held without bond at the Union County Jail after authorities said they were arrested at Willow Oaks Apartments.

Authorities said the shooting happened around 6 p.m. Wednesday and left two people dead and a third injured. The victims’ names have not been released.

Officials said the university immediately went into a lockdown, which was lifted around 8:30 p.m.

The shooting occurred on East Wilson Street near the entrance to the College Park community, according to the university’s Twitter page.

Police said Sheerer and Knotts are both charged with two counts first-degree murder, one count each of attempted first-degree murder and one count each of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Officers said the pair subsequently confessed to breaking into several homes in the Union County area.

Authorities said no university students or employees were believed to be involved in the incident, according to a statement from the university.

A motive for the shooting was not released. The investigation is ongoing.

If they broke into other homes in the area, why this time did they kill 2 people?
There must be more to this story.

I am so glad that alll of you are perfect. no physical imperfections…. you have never made a bad decision in YOU ENTIRE LIFE. you have never done anything in the eyes of good that has made you seem unworthy of his gaze. my nephew was caught in the wrong time and wrong place and is now being drug thorough the dirt. Our families hearts go out to the victims. this is what happens when drugs take a hold in the youth of today. instead of talking about how my nephew should be executed kn the courthouse steps why don’t we wait for justice to take his side and prove his innocence. this isn’t reddit.

Wrong place and wrong time making a mistake would have been perhaps, PERHAPS getting caught breaking into the FIRST home…not after breaking into several and then being involved in the death of two innocents…
        That shows intent.
Im sure that if they had broken into a home, and the homeowner had shot and killed them, as is perfectly legal in this State, I am more than convinced that you would be on here stating what a good boy your nephew was, and how …lets stop there…if he was a good kid, he would not have been there to start with…PERIOD.
You want to system to take its course? That wont be hard as there is one third person who they didnt manage to kill. Since information in the article is sketchy their condition isnt known, but hopefully they saw the entire thing go down, and can prove who did what….however, that wont matter much who killed who, as in NC if you are there when it happens, you can be charged just like the person who actually committed the crime..
Ill also say this, I spend some time in Marshville from time to time, as I have several friends there, and had they broken into one of those homes, you would be planning a funeral, not on a website trying to instill doubt as to who did what.
He was there right? Hes guilty of something.
We all make mistakes, we all dont go breaking into homes, taking things that are not ours, killing and injuring innocents in the process.

There is no excuse. Drugs or not. I hate that your family member has had to deal with some set backs in life but that doesn’t excuse murder. You know exactly what you are doing in the moments leading up to and taking another life. It’s basic human instinct.

How did Knotts shoot him? Guns don’t come in braille or was he the getaway driver? Must have been easy to track. This guy is comedy gold.
Wait til he finds out he was the accompliss to a white guy
