HOMESTEAD, Fla. — Jimmy Johnson won his sixth Sprint Cup championship in eight years Sunday with a ninth-place finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

SportingNews.com reported that Matt Kenseth entered the race 28 points behind Johnson and battled him throughout the Chase for the Sprint Cup.

“I’m at a loss for words,” Johnson said. “This sport is about people and our people at Hendrick Motorsports, especially on the 48 car, rose up to get the job done this year.”

Harvick entered the race 34 points behind Johnson and struggled much of the race.
