GREENSBORO, N.C. -- TIMCO Aviation Services, Purple Heart Homes, Crescent City Rotary Club and Home Depot joined together in presenting a newly renovated home to veteran U.S. Marine and Purple Heart recipient Sgt. Nathan Harris.
The foreclosed home was renovated to meet the needs of Harris.
Harris was injured while serving in Afghanistan. At times Harris needs help walking, so the hallways were widened and a walk-in bathtub was installed.
The Veterans Day event renewed Harris's faith in humanity, he said.
"It reaffirmed some things I fought for," Harris said. "I thought it wasn't appreciated. It lets me see that it was appreciated."
Sergeant Harris says he wants to show his appreciation by helping another veteran.
For TIMCO, this marked the culmination of its initial project with PHH, an organization dedicated to providing new housing and pathways toward an improved quality of life for service-connected, disabled veterans.
PHH identifies candidate veterans and secures potential home properties in communities near their families and friends. Volunteers from sponsoring organizations are given the opportunity to help with the renovation and construction of the new homes.
PHH further helps the veterans gain greater dignity as active and productive members of society by helping them to secure jobs and navigate the complexities of home ownership.
