Fire at Burlington city maintenance garage damages garbage trucks

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A fire at the Burlington city maintenance garage on East Summit Avenue damaged multiple garbage trucks on Thursday night around 11 p.m.

Three garbage trucks were totaled and another seven garbage trucks were damaged. Officials hope some of the seven that received partial damage will be back in service within about a week.

The total cost of damages is expected to be more than $1 million. Each garbage truck costs $250,000 new.

The fire was reported by an Alamance County sheriff’s deputy who was getting gasoline and noticed the fire.

There is currently no information on what started the fire. Currently, foul play is not suspected.

    My mom said she heard and felt the boom….her dog went crazy scared of the sudden boom….my older sister who lives a few miles away said she heard it. I live maybe 2 miles (if that far) but I didn’t hear anything, but we had stuff going on in the house and live in a complex so I don’t always hear things outside of the complex.
