1 dead, 1 injured in two Asheville house fires

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Officials are investigating two separate house fires that left one person dead and another injured Saturday.

According to the Black Mountain Times, firefighters responded to an apartment fire at 147 E. Chestnut St., Saturday morning. A neighbor had extinguished the fire by the time firefighters arrived, but crews found a man dead inside.

The victim’s name has not been released.

The second blaze was reported later that afternoon at 41 Dorchester St. A woman was transported to Mission Hospital with minor injuries.

The cause of both fires is under investigation.
