One arrested, one injured in Greensboro shooting

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A Shelby man was arrested after police said he shot and injured a man at the victim’s Greensboro apartment early Saturday morning.

Police said 31-year-old Joseph Fortunado Diaz was arrested and charged after they found a 20-year-old suffering an apparent gunshot.

Police said they found the victim wounded around 3:30 a.m. at his home at 2819 Spring Garden St. Authorities said the victim remains at a local hospital, but his condition was not released.

The suspect was arrested later that morning in Salisbury and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, police said.

Police have not provided a motive in the shooting. Greensboro police said the SBI, FBI and Salisbury police assisted in the investigation.

Further arrests are not anticipated, but additional charges on Diaz are forthcoming, according to police.
