Two airlifted after crash on Fancy Gap Mountain

CARROLL COUNTY, Va. — Two people were airlifted Wednesday morning after a head-on collision with a tree southbound on U.S. 52 on Fancy Gap Mountain.

According to The Carroll News, Sonya Kaye Bowman, 38, of Fancy Gap, was driving a 2000 Mustang southbound on U.S. 52 around 8:40 a.m. Wednesday when she blacked out, ran off the road to the right and ran into a tree head-on.

The car left the road in a curve just before the start of a guardrail, and struck the tree.

Bowman and her passenger, Michael Kevin Payne, were both airlifted to regional hospitals.
