CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Authorities said a mother and her boyfriend in Charlotte have been arrested in connection to the death of a 17-month-old girl.

WSOC-TV reported that Jade Sheree Butler, 22, and Antonio Fernelle Cathey, 21, both of Charlotte, are facing charges of murder and felony child abuse.

Police said they responded to a call about an unresponsive infant Friday night at a home in the 3200 block of Nobles Avenue.

Authorities said 1-year-old Kyiemani Brewer was taken to Carolinas Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Detectives said they consulted with the Medical Examiner’s Office and determined the baby was physically assaulted, which led to her death.
