Fit Facebook mom ‘apologizes’ after post-pregnancy photo draws criticism

MariaKangWhatsYourExcuseThe mother whose post-pregnancy profile photo created a firestorm on Facebook has “apologized” for the photo.

In her profile photo, Kang is posing in a workout outfit with her three children (3, 2 and 8-months). However, it’s not the photo causing a firestorm, but rather the caption that reads “What’s your excuse?”

Thousands of people have commented on the image, some calling her a bully while others saying she’s an inspiration. Kang responded to the online firestorm.

“Some saying I’m a bully, I’m fat-shaming and I need to apologize for the hurt I’ve caused women. I get it. SO here’s my First and Final Apology,” Maria Kang posted.

“I’m sorry you took an image and resonated with it in such a negative way. I won’t go into details that I struggled with my genetics, had an eating disorder, work full time owning two business’, have no nanny, am not naturally skinny and do not work as a personal trainer. I won’t even mention how I didn’t give into cravings for ice cream, french fries or chocolate while pregnant or use my growing belly as an excuse to be inactive.”

Kang went on to say, “What I WILL say is this. What you interpret is not MY fault. It’s Yours. The first step in owning your life, your body and your destiny is to OWN the thoughts that come out of your own head. I didn’t create them. You created them. So if you want to continue ‘hating’ this image, get used to hating many other things for the rest of your life. You can either blame, complain or obtain a new level of thought by challenging the negative words that come out of your own brain.”

Kang answered more questions about her post and her post-pregnancy workout regime on her website.

We have this whole anti-bullying thing going on for the kids, but what the heck is happening here?!?!?!?!?!?!?! She should be proud of herself and we should be too. If you’re so worried about other people making you look bad then do something about it or get over it.

People aren’t upset at what she’s wearing. People were upset because they took it as her basically saying, “I work out. Why are you staying fat?”
