LEXINGTON, N.C. — Lexington police said one woman is dead and two others were injured after a car went off the road and struck a bridge overpass.

Ashley Parks, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene and Anna Barney, 23, and Kayla Doby, 24, were both taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, police said.

Barney was airlifted to the hospital and Doby taken by ambulance, officials said. The extent of their injuries has not been released.

Police said the incident happened around 2:57 a.m. Sunday on U.S. Hwy 64 East near the North Main Street/29-70 Interchange.

A 2006 Honda Civic headed west on Hwy 64 left the roadway and struck the bridge overpass over North Main Street, authorities said.

The cause of the single-vehicle crash is still under investigation and no other details were immediately available.

The wreck temporarily shut down a portion of US Hwy 64, but authorities said it has since reopened.
