Thousands of volunteers across the state are gearing up for the annual Big Sweep community cleanup taking place this Saturday.

Cleanup efforts will focus on waterways and also along roadways where litter often piles up. In 2012, volunteers picked up over 400,000 pounds of garbage in North Carolina.

Counties from across the Triad participate every year. Both High Point and Winston-Salem will hold cleanup days October 5th, 9 a.m. to Noon.
