Sen. Phil Berger will not challenge Kay Hagan
RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina State Senator Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) said Monday he will not challenge incumbent US Senator Kay Hagan for her seat in Congress, WTVD-TV reported.
There had been widespread speculation Berger would run against Hagan. He said Monday that he will seek reelection to the North Carolina Senate instead.
“…after careful consideration and consultation with family, friends and supporters, I have decided now is not the time for me to undertake such a campaign,” said Berger in a statement.
Berger is currently North Carolina Senate President. He said he feels he can do the most good for North Carolina in the state senate representing Guilford and Rockingham counties.
