WILKES COUNTY, N.C. — Officials said a man was arrested after he allegedly shot and killed his roommate at their home and then robbed a bank.

Rainer Johannes Hoedl, 51, of Wilkesboro, is accused of fatally shooting 48-year-old George Howard Moses Junior and then robbing a nearby Wells Fargo.

Wilkes County deputies said they found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds dead in a driveway at 251 Gold Mine Ridge Road around 10 a.m. Monday.

Shortly after that, deputies said they were called to the Wells Fargo just off Hwy 421 in reference to a robbery.

Deputies said Hoedl was identified as a suspect and was stopped by highway patrol around 12 p.m. Monday on Hwy 421 in Watagua County.

"It's just violent crime and we don't have a whole lot of violent crime in Wilkes County so it is concerning," Chris Shew, Wilkes County Sheriff.

Deputies said the suspect has been charged with murder and robbery with dangerous weapon.
