DENTON, N.C. –The developer of a controversial gun range near Denton hopes to open by the spring of 2014, according to The Lexington Dispatch.

Last week, the Davidson County Board of Adjustment granted a permit request from Brent Knight, who plans to build a 30-bay range off of Shiptontown Road near High Rock Lake.

Knight, a Lexington resident, says the estimated $300,000 range will provide Davidson County concealed carry permit holders and other gun owners a safe place to shoot.

According to the paper, the range will have four shooting areas and would be used for turkey shoots, matches, tournaments and special events that could be held at night.

Many neighbors opposed to the range have voiced major concerns about how noise and safety will impact their property values and lifestyles.

“They [Board of Adjustment] didn’t take into account that there were so many homes within one mile of this property,” said Keagan Pope, who lives near the proposed site.
