16-year-old shot early Sunday, investigation ongoing

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A 16-year-old was shot early Sunday morning, police said in a news release.

Officers responded to a local hospital around 1:45 a.m. Sunday in reference to a victim with a gunshot wound.

Officers said the victim told police he was confronted by an armed man. During the confrontation, the victim suffered a single gunshot wound.

He was taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle.

Later, the suspect in the case was identified as Phan Y, 22, who also arrived at the hospital in a personal vehicle. He was suffering from serious injuries consistent with blunt trauma.

Police believe the incident happened near 842 Winston Street. No other information was released.

The investigation is still ongoing.

No charges have been filed at this time.
