Armed man robs Winston-Salem store after forcing doors open
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Police are searching for an man who robbed a convenience store at gunpoint Tuesday night after forcing his way inside.
The robbery was reported shortly before 11:15 p.m. at the Citgo at 3890 North Glenn Ave.
An employee told police she had locked the store’s entrance and was mopping when a man whose face was covered with a shirt started pulling on the doors. The man was able to pull one of the doors open and get inside, after which he pointed a black handgun at the victim and demanded money.
The suspect ran away after taking an undisclosed amount of cash. Police say they used a K-9 in an effort to track the suspect, but the trail ended near the 800 block of Efrid Street.
The suspect is described as a 25-year-old black male who stood between 6′ and 6’5″ tall and weighed between 180 and 200 pounds. He was wearing a black tank top, “baggy” black pants and tan Timberland boots at the time of the robbery. He used a black shirt to cover his face.
Police say a man with a matching description was involved in a similar incident at the Family Dollar at 4404 Old Rural Hall Road. They said the suspect tried opening the doors of the business, but he was not able to get inside. Police did not say what time the incident occurred.
