Doctors say the earlier you get your flu shot, the better.

"If the flu season comes early [this year] you are covered.  If it comes late you are still covered and your immunity should last that long." said Dr. Ward Robinson, Medical Director at the Guilford County Department of Public Health.

Two types of vaccines will be available this season: One vaccine will cover three flu viruses and the other will protect you from four other viruses.  Dr. Robinson says both will protect you from the flu, but the key is to get your flu shot now.

"The recommendations are pretty clear when you get the vaccine it's good for that season, it's good for that year. If you get it now you are covered," he explained.
