WOODLAWN, Va. — Deputies say three Virginia men were arrested over the weekend after they attacked a man and woman because of their race.

According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 11 p.m. Friday to a report of a disturbance near a home on Training Center Road in Woodlawn.

A woman told deputies the suspects had been harassing her and another man for some time. The woman said she was driving by the suspects on Training Center Road when one of them tried getting into her vehicle and punched her in the face.

The victim was able to drive to her house, but deputies say one of the suspects showed up at the home a short time later. The suspect allegedly assaulted a man at the home before the two others showed up with weapons. All three suspects then left the scene, deputies said.

The suspects were later identified as Cody Lee Quesenberry, 23, of Hillsville, Waylan Leon Pack, 38, of Woodlawn, and Freddie Gwyn, 25, of Woodlawn.

Quesenberry is charged with two counts of assault and battery, one count of assault because of a person’s race and one count of trespass.

Pack and Gwyn are charged with one count of assault and battery, two counts of brandishing a firearm and one count of assault because of a person’s race.

Deputies did not say what race the victims were.
