HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Friends and family gathered in High Point Sunday to welcome home more than 120 soldiers from the National Guard.

Members of the National Guard’s 5-113th Field Artillery Battalion returned after nearly a year in Egypt and Sgt. David Nelson’s family came from Elon to welcome him back.

Nelson said technology has made the separation from his family more bearable than in the past.

“I Skype with my wife and kids at least once a day while we were over there,” he said.

He said he doesn’t know how long he’ll be home for.

“Hopefully for a while, unless something breaks out somewhere else,” Nelson said.

The 5-113th is headquartered in Louisburg and has armories in High Point, Winston-Salem and Greensboro.

Another round of soldiers is expected to return to the Triad next Sunday.
