ASHEVILLE, N.C. — A North Carolina man was arrested after authorities said he threatened to shoot and kill a police officer on Craigslist.

WLOS-TV reported that 39-year-old Derrick Michael Lenart made the Craigslist post Wednesday night to the website’s rants section for the Asheville area.

Authorities said the post stated the shooting would happen before 10 p.m. Friday, but did not name a specific officer or location where it would occur.

The suspect allegedly posted that people should tune in to WLOS for more information.

Lenart was arrested by Jackson County investigators with the help of the State Bureau of Investigation, officials said.

He was reportedly arrested at his apartment and charged with three counts of communicating threats.

The suspect received a $250,000 secured bond and has court planned for Sept. 17.

Lenart is also a registered sex offender. He was convicted in 2009 of indecent liberties involving a 6-year-old. He was 31 at the time of the incident.
