Minor earthquake rattles Boone on Sunday

BOONE, N.C. — A small earthquake three miles south of Boone rattled parts of western North Carolina Sunday afternoon,¬†according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The minor earthquake was a 2.9 on the Richter Scale and was reported just before 4 p.m. No injuries or damage were reported.

Smaller earthquakes occur in western North Carolina every year or two.
