Rabid raccoon found in Davidson County

LEXINGTON, N.C. — Health officials say a rabid raccoon was found Wednesday in the Silver Valley community in Davidson County.

The raccoon, which was shot and killed, may have had contact with several unvaccinated outside cats, officials said.

Officials say they are trying to trap the cats.

No people had physical contact with the rabid animal.
