WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Police say a tractor-trailer hauling 43,000 pounds of metal shelving overturned Tuesday night on U.S. Highway 52 in Winston-Salem.

The crash was reported shortly after 8 p.m. on U.S. 52 North between Hanes Mill and Bethania-Rural Hall roads.

According to police, the driver of the tractor-trailer went off the road and up an embankment before the rig overturned.

Additional trucks were called to the scene to transport the heavy metal shelves that were being hauled.

Police say one northbound lane of the highway was closed during the clean-up efforts, which concluded around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday morning commuters will not be affected by the accident, they added.
