Colin Powell to speak at 2014 High Point University graduation

HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point University announced Wednesday General Colin L. Powell will be its commencement speaker next year.

The former secretary of state, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and national security adviser will speak at the school’s commencement ceremony on May 3, 2014.

“General Colin Powell’s service and dedication to our country reflect many of the values we promote at High Point University,” says Dr. Nido Qubein, HPU president. “As we prepare our students to experience lives of both success and significance, his story will surely inspire positive action.”

Powell will join past commencement speakers that include Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan, Dr. Bill Cosby, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, NASA Astronaut Dr. Buzz Aldrin, CEO of the Coca-Cola Company Muhtar Kent, and former First Lady Laura Bush.
