Greensboro Science Center to reopen Monday
GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Greensboro Science Center will reopen Monday after officials said it was struck by lightning on Saturday night.
Lightning hit a transformer at the facility Saturday afternoon, and officials said the attraction closed Sunday as a precaution.
Spokeswoman Stefany Reeve said the strike occurred around 3 p.m. and power remained out from then until about 8:45 p.m.
Reeve said the Greensboro Science Center’s director Glenn Doborogosz arrived shortly after the strike and said all of the animals were fine.
“The biggest worry when the power goes out is the filtration system and water quality for all of the aquarium animals,” Reeve said.
To be on the safe side, technicians will test the filtration system on Sunday, which is why the facility will be closed.
“Everything will be open by Monday,” Reeve said.
