Where does lottery money go?

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wednesday night's Powerball drawing brought out crowds with wishes of buying the $425 million dollar winning ticket.

"I've hit a couple few hundreds, but it would be nice to get the million dollars," said Tim Hipp. "If we win we are out of here. We are going to buy us a hundred acres, put a fence around it and stay away from everybody."

With debates and protest in Raleigh over school funding, many question where are the proceeds from the North Carolina Education Lottery going.

According to the State Education Department, only about 30 percent of the proceeds go to education. Out of the 30 percent, about 23 percent goes to school construction and 14 percent pays for Pre-K programs and scholarships.

Numbers picked for Wednesday's $448 million Powerball jackpot are 05, 25, 30, 58, 59 and Powerball 32.
