Davidson County Schools Superintendent Dr. Fred Mock announced on Monday that he will retire on Jan. 1, according to the Lexington Dispatch.

Mock, who has been the school systems’ superintendent for 16 years, made the announcement when speaking to school board members, administrators and employees at the central office building during the monthly meeting.

According to the paper, Mock said during the meeting, “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve this county as its superintendent for the past 16 years. The teachers, staff and students are highly dedicated to making this one of the best and most desired systems to attend in the state.”

Board members will discuss with their attorney about the process for moving forward to find a replacement for Mock.
