Two charged after cocaine seized in Burlington

BURLINGTON, N.C. — Two people were arrested after deputies said they seized about a half a kilo of cocaine during a traffic stop in Burlington.

Carolos Lopez-Rojas, 34, and Yessica Cortez, 24, both of Burlington, face drug charges after being stopped by Alamance County deputies Friday on South Main Street.

Authorities said they seized 614.5 grams of cocaine, $173 in cash and a 2005 Jeep Cherokee.

Deputies said they were both charged with trafficking cocaine by possession, trafficking cocaine by transportation, possession with intent to sell cocaine and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The delinquency of a minor charges involve two children who were allegedly riding with them. Deputies said additional charges may be pending.

The suspects were placed in the Alamance County Detention center under a $125,000 secured bond. Cortez had court planned for Monday.
