GASTONIA, N.C. — Gastonia police have accused a woman of handcuffing her mentally disabled daughter to a hotel bed while the woman attended a wedding.

The Gaston Gazette reported that Tiffany Michelle Davis, 38, of Pasadena, Md., traveled from Maryland to Gastonia with her daughter to attend the event.

Davis’ daughter is 19 but has the mental faculties of a 3-year-old and cannot read or write, according to reports.

The suspect allegedly handcuffed her daughter’s right leg to the bed frame in their hotel room at the Courtyard Marriott at 1856 Remount Road in Gastonia on Saturday.

A police report said Davis brought both handcuffs and a dog leash to restrain the victim.

Hotel workers found the girl. Davis was charged Sunday with neglecting a disabled person with injury.

The suspect was placed in the Gaston County jail under a $100,000 secured bond and had court planned for Monday.
