Brother, friends save abducted 6-year-old
NEW CASTLE, Ind. — A 6-year-old girl who was abducted from a playground by a 19-year-old man was rescued by her brother and some of their friends.
The girl was playing with her older brother and the other children in New Castle, Indiana when police say the suspect, Caleb Cooper, approached the children and started pushing them on the swings.
Police say Cooper forcefully took the girl to his apartment, claiming he wanted to show her a kitten.
The other kids suspected something wasn’t right, so they ran to a neighbor. The neighbor called police, who found the child undressed in a bedroom in Cooper’s apartment with a large knife by the bed.
Cooper is charged with child molestation. Police say the suspect was previously arrested for a sex crime when he was 14 years old.
