Seven people arrested in staged accident scheme

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — Officials said seven people were arrested in an alleged insurance fraud scheme involving a staged auto accident in Guilford County.

The suspects allegedly conspired to defraud American Family Insurance Company of several thousand dollars by submitting fraudulent documentation in support of insurance claims for injuries caused by a staged motor vehicle accident on Dec. 3, 2012.

The case was investigated by the Department of Insurance and the Gibsonville Police Department.

The suspects face various charges including conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense. Most of them were also charged with attempting to obtain property by false pretense.

The suspects include Shea Coates, 33; Shantana Raquel Clark, 24; Donta Omar Haith, 23; Gregory Oneil Haith, 24; Lisa H. Haith, 46; Helen Clark Monroe and Laporshal Conshay Neal, 24.

All the suspects are from Burlington except for Monroe who is from Stoneville.

Authorities said they’re still searching for Whitney Bonique Lawson, 22, of Burlington.
