“The Conjuring,” a horror movie filmed in North Carolina, was a big hit.

WILMINGTON, N.C. — “The Conjuring,” a horror movie filmed in North Carolina, took first place at the box office over the weekend, collecting $41.9 million in ticket sales.

Hollywood.com reported that it beat out three other new releases including “Turbo,” “R.I.P.D” and “Red 2.”

The movie is the second filmed in Wilmington to be number one in the box office this summer, along with “Iron Man 3.”

The Conjuring is about two paranormal investigators who work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse.

It stars Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson and was directed by James Wan.
