House fire, flooding reported in Surry Co.

SURRY COUNTY, N.C. -- Authorities said one person was assessed for injuries after lighting struck a Surry County home on Wednesday afternoon, causing a fire. Two other structures were also struck but, caused minimal damage.

Surry County EMS Director John Shelton said homes in the area of Lovers Lane in Mount Airy were also flooded, along with McBride and Slate roads. No one had to be evacuated.

Between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Surry County 911 said they over 50 calls related to flood water.

No injuries or extensive damage was reported.
